KX 85 Generations and Templates

What Makes the KX 85 Distinctive

The Kawasaki KX 85 is a pure motocross bike with an 84 cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled 2-stroke engine, fitted with a Keihin PWK 28 carburettor and a 6-speed gearbox. Quoted output is approximately 28.5 hp at 12,000 rpm (source: 50factory). It is reserved for off-road and circuit use only – not road-legal – and is aimed at riders aged 11 to 15 depending on height, weight and ability. It comes in two mechanically identical versions: Big Wheel (BW), with 19/16 wheels, and Small Wheel (SW), with 17/14 wheels. The plastics and cutting templates are identical between the two; only the wheel diameter differs.

Generation Compatibility

The KX 85 plastics have changed at each major redesign. Four template families exist:

2001-2010: first generation, specific plastics

2011-2013: intermediate update

2014-2021: deeper redesign, distinct template

2022-2024: new generation, revised panel shapes

2025-2026: Kawasaki redesign (major update to KX85 and KX112, revised front bodywork, 43 mm fork), recent model year covered

A graphic kit chosen for the wrong generation will not fit correctly. Every kit is cut for the exact model year you specify at the time of ordering.

Which Generation Do You Have?

Materials and Vinyl Quality

Stickersproject graphic kits are made from premium vinyl, 200 to 300 microns thick, sourced from professional-grade brands: 3M, Hexis, Oracal or Avery. A UV-resistant laminate is applied across the full kit to preserve colours over time, including under intensive competition or training use. Installation is done with a squeegee; the vinyl is repositionable during fitting and removable without residue on sound plastics. FAQ – KX 85 Graphic Kit

Is the graphic kit compatible with both the Big Wheel and Small Wheel versions?

Yes. The plastics and cutting templates are identical between the KX 85 Big Wheel and Small Wheel. The only difference between the two versions is the wheel diameter. A single graphic kit fits both.

What is the difference compared with neighbouring models such as the KX 100?

The KX 85 and KX 100 share some bodywork elements depending on the model year, but the cutting templates are not interchangeable. Always select the kit that corresponds to your exact model. If in doubt, contact us before placing your order.

Does the KX 85 require an A2 licence?

No. The KX 85 is a competition motocross bike, not road-legal and reserved for off-road and circuit use only. Licence categories – A1, A2 or otherwise – do not apply to this type of machine.
