Fairing Generation – Why Your Year Matters for Your Graphic Kit

What Sets the YZ Two-Stroke Platform Apart

The Yamaha YZ 125 and YZ 250 are purpose-built motocross machines, both built on the same two-stroke liquid-cooled platform. The YZ 125 runs a 124 cc single-cylinder engine producing around 37.8 hp at 11,500 rpm. The YZ 250 steps up to 249 cc and delivers around 48 hp (35.3 kW on recent versions). Both bikes are competition-only machines – no lighting, no indicators, no number plate from the factory. They are intended for track or private land use only.

The shared graphic kit template across both engine sizes is made possible by the shared fairing platform. Both the 125 and the 250 follow the same fairing design generations, meaning a single cutting template fits both displacements.

Year Compatibility – Three Fairing Generations

The YZ fairing has evolved through three distinct generations, each with its own set of cutting templates:

2002-2014: first long-running generation, angular bodywork characteristic of the era

2015-2021: second generation, redesigned lines and updated wheel arches

2022-2027: current third generation, more compact and streamlined bodywork

A kit cut for the 2015-2021 generation will not align correctly on a 2002-2014 or 2022-2027 fairing. Specifying your exact year when ordering is essential.

Which Generation Is Yours?

If your YZ 125 or YZ 250 was built between 2022 and 2027, you are on the current generation. For a YZF 250 graphic kit or a YZF 450 graphic kit, the templates are different – these four-stroke models have their own dedicated pages. 100% Custom, Made in France

Standard Kit or Fully Personalised Kit

Each kit is available at two levels. The standard kit offers predefined colour schemes that can be configured straight away. The fully personalised kit gives you complete freedom over colours (no palette restrictions), personal or club logos, rider numbers, and your choice of finish: satin, pearl or chrome. A professional fitting service is also available if you prefer to have the kit applied by a specialist.

Designs Available

4 designs are listed in the catalogue for the YZ 125 & 250. Each corresponds to a distinct graphic theme, which can then be adapted to your chosen colours, finishes and personalised graphic elements.

Materials and Vinyl

Kits are produced in premium vinyl 200 to 300 microns thick, with integrated anti-UV lamination to keep colours sharp over time. The films used come from leading brands in the sector – 3M, Hexis, Oracal and Avery Dennison – trusted for their durability in wet conditions, mud and the temperature swings typical of motocross use.

Installation is carried out with a squeegee, at room temperature, with no specialist tools required. The vinyl is removable without leaving residue on a sound surface – ideal if you want to change the look or sell the bike in its original condition.

To match your kit with your riding gear, the helmet graphic kits range is also available with the same fully custom approach.

FAQ – Yamaha YZ 125 & 250

Does this kit fit both the YZ 125 and the YZ 250?

Yes. The YZ 125 (124 cc) and the YZ 250 (249 cc) share the same fairing platform within each generation. A single template covers both displacements for a given generation – simply specify your year when ordering, regardless of engine size.

What is the difference between the 2002-2014, 2015-2021 and 2022-2027 generations?

Each generation corresponds to a full fairing redesign on the YZ. Cutting templates are not interchangeable between generations. A kit prepared for the 2015-2021 generation will not align correctly on a 2002-2014 or a 2022-2027 fairing.

Can the Yamaha YZ 125 or YZ 250 be ridden on a restricted A2 licence?

No. The YZ 125 and YZ 250 are competition machines that are not road-registered as standard – they have no lights, indicators or number plate. A2 licence rules do not apply to this type of machine. Road registration is possible only via a specialist DREAL kit and a third-party homologator, independently of any graphic kit.

How many designs are available for this model?

4 designs are listed in the catalogue for the YZ 125 & 250. Each is customisable in colours, finishes and graphic elements to suit your preferences.

Can I replicate the original Yamaha factory colours or must I choose a custom design?

Both options are open. You can take inspiration from Yamaha factory colour schemes or create a fully bespoke design. In either case, you approve a digital mockup before production – no kit is manufactured without your sign-off.

What materials are used and will the vinyl hold up to motocross use?

Kits are made from premium vinyl 200 to 300 microns thick with anti-UV lamination, using 3M, Hexis, Oracal or Avery Dennison film. This quality level provides resistance to mud, debris impacts and mechanical stress typical of motocross competition use. The vinyl is removable without residue on a sound fairing surface.
