Generation K47: Why Your Year Matters for the Right Fit

What Sets the 2013-2016 Generation Apart

The BMW S1000R 2013-2016 is the first generation of BMW Motorrad’s naked roadster, built on the K47 platform. It shares the 999 cc inline four-cylinder engine of the S1000RR superbike, detuned for stronger low and mid-range delivery: 160 PS (158 hp / 118 kW) at 11,000 rpm, 112 Nm at 9,250 rpm, six-speed gearbox and chain drive. The DOHC 16-valve architecture and liquid cooling remain identical to the RR block, with revised mapping to favour flexibility in road use.

The bodywork panels and plastics of the 2013-2016 generation are specific to this model year. BMW revised the design from the 2017 model year onwards, adding +5 kW (165 hp / 123 kW), saving 3 kg, and fitting the Gearshift Assist Pro quickshifter and revised ABS as standard – none of which were standard on the K47. These bodywork changes make the two generations’ templates incompatible.

Which Years Share the Same Template

The K47 template covers every bike built between 2013 and 2016. The S1000R went on sale in 2014, but the “2013-2016” label reflects the K47 code dating from early 2013 and is the nomenclature used across the market. In practice, if your S1000R left the factory between 2014 and 2016, this page has the right template. The same kit fits all model years in this range without any modification or additional trimming.

Which Year Is Your Bike?

If your S1000R was delivered from 2017 onwards, its bodywork is different and the template on this page will not fit. Check the S1000R 2017-2019 graphics kit or the S1000R 2020-2023 graphics kit depending on your model year. To browse our full BMW range, visit our BMW graphics kits page.

16 Designs Available

The S1000R 2013-2016 catalogue includes 16 designs. Each one covers all the bodywork panels of the model: front, sides, tail and guards. Every element – colour, graphic and finish – can be adjusted on any of them. The digital proof validated by you is the reference document used for cutting and printing.

Materials and Vinyl

All S1000R 2013-2016 graphics kits are produced in premium calendered vinyl, 200 to 300 microns thick depending on the panel. We source from leading professional vinyl brands: 3M, Hexis, Oracal and Avery Dennison. Every panel receives a UV-laminate overlay to protect the colours and graphics from fading over time.

Application is done with a squeegee at room temperature, without heat or solvents. The vinyl can be removed cleanly without leaving residue on a sound, clean surface. The same vinyl quality is used across our helmet graphics kits if you want to match your helmet to your bike.

FAQ – BMW S1000R 2013-2016

Does the S1000R 2013 graphics kit fit the 2014, 2015 and 2016 models as well?

Yes. The K47 template is shared across all model years from 2013 to 2016. Although the bike went on sale in 2014, the bodywork panels are identical throughout the range. A kit ordered for a 2013 S1000R fits a 2014, 2015 or 2016 without any adjustment.

What is the difference between the 2013-2016 and the 2017-2019 generation?

The two generations have different bodywork panels. The 2017-2019 model received an extra 5 kW (165 hp vs 158 hp), a 3 kg weight reduction, the Gearshift Assist Pro quickshifter as standard, and revised ABS. These updates came with a restyled body that makes the two templates incompatible. It is essential to select the page matching your exact model year.

Is the BMW S1000R 2013-2016 eligible for an A2 licence?

No. The S1000R K47 produces 118 kW in standard form, which is well above the 70 kW threshold that would allow it to be restricted to 35 kW for the A2 category. Even restricted, the bike does not meet the power-to-weight requirements set out in A2 regulations.

How many graphics kit designs are available for this model?

There are 16 designs available in the catalogue for the BMW S1000R 2013-2016. Each design covers every bodywork panel on the bike. All 16 can be modified in colour, graphic and finish to your specification.

Can I replicate the original factory colours or do I have to choose a custom design?

Both options are open to you. You can request a reproduction of the factory colour scheme or go for a completely different look. In either case, a digital proof is submitted for your approval before production, so you can fine-tune every detail before we cut anything.

Is the vinyl easy to apply and can it be removed without damaging the bodywork?

Application uses a squeegee at room temperature with no specialist tools required. The vinyl removes cleanly without leaving residue on a sound and clean surface. If you would prefer not to apply it yourself, our fitting service is available on request.
