The first-generation Panigale : why the model year fairing matters

What sets the Panigale 1199/899 first generation apart

The Ducati Panigale 1199/899 first generation (2012-2014) introduces the Superquadro engine – a 90-degree L-twin, 4-stroke, liquid-cooled, with desmodromic distribution (4 valves per cylinder) and chain drive, replacing the belt-driven Testastretta of earlier Ducati models. The over-square bore of 112 mm with a 60.8 mm stroke produces 1,199 cc on the 1199 (195 hp at 10,750 rpm) and 898 cc on the 899 (148 hp at 10,750 rpm). The monocoque chassis is the other defining break with Ducati tradition: the tubular trellis frame is abandoned and the engine itself becomes a structural load-bearing element. The fairing on this generation – design codes D1 (monoposto) and D2 in the ASD variants – is unique to this architecture and these model years.

Model year compatibility : 2012 to 2014

The 1199 Panigale and 1199S went on sale from 2012. The 899 Panigale joined the range in late 2013. Both models share the same first-generation fairing, meaning a single template covers the entire 899 and 1199 fleet from 2012 to 2014. This template is not compatible with the 1299/959 restyled from 2015 onwards, which have different bodywork panels and fitment points, nor with the Panigale V4 launched in 2018, which uses a four-cylinder engine and a completely different fairing.

Which model year do you have?

If your bike is a Panigale from 2015 onwards, you have the restyled version – see the Panigale 2015-2017 graphic kit. For a Panigale V2 2020 or later, find the Panigale V2 2020-2024 graphic kit. Browse all Ducati references in our Ducati graphics kits category.

Materials and vinyl

Panigale 1199/899 2012-2014 graphic kits are made from premium vinyl 200 to 300 microns thick, with anti-UV lamination to protect colours against fading and lifting over time. Materials are sourced from recognised suppliers: 3M, Hexis, Oracal and Avery Dennison.

Application is done with a squeegee at room temperature – no heat gun required. Stickers are removable without leaving residue on a sound surface, allowing a change of look without damaging the original bodywork.

FAQ – Panigale 1199/899 2012-2014

Is this kit compatible with both the Ducati 899 and the 1199?

Yes. The 899 Panigale (898 cc, 148 hp) and the 1199 Panigale (1,199 cc, 195 hp) share the same first-generation fairing. A single template covers all model years from 2012 to 2014, whether your bike is a 899, a 1199 or a 1199S.

What is the difference between the 2012-2014 generation and the 2015 restyled model?

The 2015 update introduced the 1299 and 959 with different bodywork panels and fitment points compared to the first generation. The 1199 produces 195 hp, while the 1299 produces 205 hp and adds an enriched electronics suite. Fairing panels are not interchangeable between generations, which means different graphic templates are required. If your bike is a 1299 or 959, use the search filter at the top of the page to find the matching category.

Is the Panigale 1199 or 899 eligible for an A2 licence?

No. The 1199 Panigale produces 195 hp (143.4 kW) and the 899 produces 148 hp (108.8 kW) – both well above the 35 kW (47.5 hp) A2 licence limit. Neither version can be restricted to A2 standard within this power range.

How many designs are available for this model?

11 designs are available in the catalogue for the Panigale 1199/899 2012-2014. Every design can be customised in colours, finishes and graphics on request.

Can I replicate the original factory colour scheme on my Panigale?

Yes. Factory Ducati liveries can be reproduced exactly, or used as a starting point for a personalised variation. A completely different design is equally possible – free choice of colours, race numbers, personal logos, or a full bespoke creation.

Are the stickers removable and what material is used?

Kits are made from premium vinyl 200 to 300 microns thick, with anti-UV lamination. They are applied with a squeegee at room temperature and peel away cleanly without leaving residue on undamaged bodywork.
