This Generation’s Template – Why the Model Year Matters

What Sets the S1000R 2017-2019 Apart

The 2017 facelift marks the second generation of the BMW S1000R naked roadster. The 999 cc inline four-cylinder engine produces 165 hp (121 kW) at 11,000 rpm and 114 N.m of torque at 9,250 rpm. The 2017 update brought +5 hp over the 2014-2016 models through EU4 compliance and a new exhaust system, alongside a weight reduction of approximately 2 kg. Electronics and the lightweight frame are carried over from the S1000RR, with improved ABS and traction control as standard. At 165 hp, this model sits well beyond the A2 licence bridgeable ceiling and requires a full A licence.

Compatibility Across the Model Years Covered

The 2017, 2018 and 2019 model years share an identical bodywork template. Tank, side panels, swingarm cover and frame guards are common across all three years – one cutting file fits the lot, with no adaptation needed. The next generation, facelifted in 2021, uses a different template and is not compatible with these kits.

Which Generation Do You Have?

If you are unsure of your generation, compare with the S1000R 2020-2023 graphics kit and the S1000R 2013-2016 graphics kit. The bodywork line differences between generations are shown on each page. You can also browse the full range on the BMW graphics kits page to pick the right reference before ordering.

Standard Kit or Fully Custom Design

Every kit can be ordered in catalogue colourways or completely redesigned to your spec: free colour choice across the full swatch, custom logos, race numbers, satin, pearl or chrome finishes. A fitting service is available if you would rather have the kit professionally installed. You can also customise your helmet at the same time by adding a kit from the helmet graphics kit page. To explore all compatible naked and sports bikes, the sports and street bike graphics page lists every available range.

Available Designs

16 designs are listed in the catalogue for the S1000R 2017-2019. Each design corresponds to a base colour and graphic combination, fully editable at the time of order. Select the design that suits you from the list below, then adjust colours and finishes directly from the product page.

Materials and Vinyl

Kits are produced in premium 200-300 micron vinyl with integrated anti-UV lamination, designed to withstand UV exposure, moisture and regular washing. All materials come from certified brands: 3M, Hexis, Oracal, and Avery Dennison. Application is done with a squeegee at room temperature – no heat gun or specialist tools required. A fitting tutorial is included with every order.

The vinyl is fully removable without leaving residue on sound, well-prepared bodywork. If you sell the bike or want to refresh the look, the kit peels off cleanly without damaging the original paint underneath.

FAQ – BMW S1000R 2017-2019

Is this kit compatible with my S1000R 2018 or 2019?

Yes. The 2017, 2018 and 2019 model years share the same bodywork template. A single cutting file covers all three years, so you do not need to specify the exact year when ordering for this generation.

What is the difference between this kit and one for the 2013-2016 or 2020-2023 S1000R?

Each generation has its own template, as the bodywork lines changed with every facelift. A kit designed for the 2013-2016 model years will not fit the 2017-2019 generation, and vice versa. Always check your registration year before placing your order.

Is the S1000R 2017-2019 eligible for an A2 licence?

No. The BMW S1000R 2017-2019 produces 165 hp (121 kW), placing it well above the 35 kW homologated and 47.5 hp bridgeable ceiling required for an A2 licence. It requires a full Category A licence.

How many designs are available for the S1000R 2017-2019?

The catalogue includes 16 designs for this generation. Each design is fully customisable in colours, finishes and graphic elements – logos, race numbers – from the corresponding product page.

Can I replicate the original BMW colourway or go for a completely custom look?

Both options are available. You can request a faithful reproduction of a standard BMW factory colourway, or go for a completely original design. A digital artwork proof is created and approved with you before any production begins.

Is the vinyl removable and how long will it last?

Yes, the vinyl is removable without leaving residue on sound bodywork. The 3M, Hexis, Oracal and Avery Dennison materials used are rated for outdoor use with UV resistance. The anti-UV lamination protects the print against fading and weathering. Actual longevity depends on exposure conditions and how the bike is maintained.
