The 1299/959 Panigale Generation: Why the Year Matters

What Sets This Generation Apart

The 1299 Panigale was unveiled at the end of 2014 at the Milan Motor Show and went into production in 2015. Its L-twin Superquadro engine displaces 1,285 cc – reached through an extended stroke of 60.8 mm compared to the 1,198 cc of the 1199 – making it the largest production twin-cylinder Ducati of its era. Power output stands at 205 hp at 10,500 rpm. From 2016, the 959 Panigale (955 cc, approximately 157 hp at 10,500 rpm) replaced the 899 and shares the identical 2015-2017 fairing, including the distinctive dual lateral exhaust outlets of this generation. Both variants receive next-generation electronics: an IMU inertial platform, Cornering ABS, traction and slide control, anti-wheelie, and a bi-directional quickshifter (DQS). The S version adds Ohlins Smart EC semi-active suspension.

Year Compatibility Across This Generation

The fairing profile of the 1299/959 Panigale is identical across both engine capacities from 2015 to 2017. A single cutting template covers the 1299 Panigale and the 959 Panigale for the entire production window. The air intakes and body curvature were redesigned compared to the 1199/899 (2012-2014): a kit made for the earlier generation does not fit the 2015-2017 fairing, and vice versa.

Which Generation Do You Have?

If your bike was built between 2015 and 2017 and is a 1299 or 959 Panigale, you are in the right place. For a 1199 or 899 built between 2012 and 2014, see the dedicated Panigale 2012-2014 graphic kit. For a Panigale V2 from 2020 onwards, head to the Panigale V2 2020-2024 graphic kit. All Ducati graphic kits are gathered under Ducati graphics kits.

Materials and Vinyl

The kits are produced in premium vinyl between 200 and 300 microns thick, sourced from recognised manufacturers including 3M, Hexis, Oracal and Avery Dennison. An anti-UV laminate is applied as a top coat to protect colours and graphics over time.

Application is done with a squeegee at room temperature and requires no specialist tools. The vinyl is removable without residue on undamaged original bodywork, allowing you to change the look without harming the factory paint. If the fairing has stone chips or previous adhesive residue, we recommend cleaning and preparing the surface before fitting.

If you are also decorating your lid, explore the matching helmet graphics kit range for a consistent look across your bike and helmet.

FAQ – Ducati 1299 / 959 Panigale 2015-2017

Is this kit compatible with both the 959 and the 1299 Panigale?

Yes. The 2015-2017 template covers both engine variants: the 1299 Panigale (1,285 cc) and the 959 Panigale (955 cc). Both models share the same fairing on this generation, so one cutting template applies to either bike.

How is this kit different from a kit made for the 1199/899 Panigale?

The second-generation fairing (2015-2017) was restyled compared to the 1199/899 (2012-2014), with different air intake shapes and body contours. The templates are not interchangeable. If you own a 1199 or 899, please use the dedicated Panigale 2012-2014 graphic kit instead.

Can the 959 Panigale be used on an A2 licence?

The 959 Panigale 2015-2017 is not eligible for A2 use. European regulations prohibit restricting a motorcycle to A2 power levels if the original output exceeds 70 kW: the 959 Panigale produces 157 hp (approximately 115.5 kW), well above that threshold. The 1299 Panigale, at 205 hp, is equally outside A2 criteria. Both models require a full A licence (or progressive access from A2 after two years).

How many designs are available for this model?

The catalogue offers 11 graphic designs for the Ducati 1299/959 Panigale 2015-2017. Every design can be personalised in colours, finishes and graphic elements to suit your preferences.

Can I replicate a factory Ducati colour scheme or choose my own colours entirely?

You can choose colours that replicate the spirit of original Ducati liveries or go fully bespoke with your own palette. The swatch range covers satin, pearlescent and chrome-effect finishes. A digital proof is submitted for your approval before any production starts.

Is the kit removable, and what materials are used?

Kits are made from premium 200-300 micron vinyl (3M, Hexis, Oracal, Avery Dennison) with an anti-UV laminate finish. The vinyl is applied with a squeegee at room temperature and comes off cleanly without residue on bodywork in good condition. On surfaces with previous adhesive or damage, a preparatory clean is recommended before fitting.
